Abbeyfeale Parish Celebration of First Holy Communion
28th August 2020
We are coming into the final days of preparation for the celebration of First Holy Communion. Fr Shoji and I are looking forward to welcoming you to the First Communion Mass on Saturday 5th of September. I am sure you are making lots of preparation for First Holy Communion Day and please God all will go according to plan for you and your family.
As part of that preparation we would like to invite you and your child to a meeting of preparation and a short rehearsal for the Mass. The first meeting will be for the children who are receiving Holy Communion at the 11.00am Mass. This meeting will be on Tuesday 1st of September at 7.00pm.
The practice for the children receiving Holy Communion at the 2.00pm Mass will be on Thursday 3rd of September at 7.00pm.
The purpose of the meeting is to have a practice with the children receiving Holy Communion, finalise seating arrangements for your family and to distribute the admission tickets for the Mass. Each family will be allocated eight places within the church and this includes the child receiving Holy Communion.
At the end of our meeting we will also celebrate the Sacrament of Confession with the children. In order to help the children prepare for Confession a video lesson has been prepared by Fr Chris O’Donnell and two teachers from our diocese. The video is excellent, and I would ask you to watch the video with your child in advance of our meetings next week. The video can be seen by linking on to www.limerickdiocese.org If you scroll down on the front page of the website you will find the link to the three video lessons. The first one is on Reconciliation (Confession), the other two are on the celebration of Mass. A worksheet can also be downloaded for the children. A link to the videos is also provided on the right hand side of the screen. See Preparing for First Holy Communion – Grow in Love.
We ask that just one parent and the child be present for the rehearsal. No other members of the family need to attend. Please enter the church by the front door and follow the stewards instructions. The meeting should last no longer than 45 minutes. If possible we would ask that you be present in the church 5 minutes before the practice begins so that we can begin sharply at 7.00p.m.
